The Catholic Aboriginal Council for Reconciliation was created by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) in 1998 to provide resources to increase awareness of aboriginal issues, to support processes of healing and to foster aboriginal faith leadership in the Christian community. In 2002, this Council recommended that each year December 12 be a National Day of Prayer for Aboriginal People. This is a fitting date as it is the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe who is recognized as Our Lady of the Americas.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon reiterates its long-standing position that all fund-raising activities to benefit Catholic organizations must respect the dignity of the human person, and must not exploit human beings in any way.


Regarding recent media reports about a Progress Club “Boys Lunch Out” fundraiser, a Catholic school and a Catholic hospital were identified as being among the health and youth causes to receive donations from the event.

Bishop’s Installation Nov. 23Free tickets for Bishop Mark Hagemoen’s Installation on Nov. 23 will be released to the general public through starting at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14.

The Installation celebration for Bishop Mark Hagemoen will be held Thursday, Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Holy Family in Saskatoon. A limited number of free tickets are available to the general public on a first-come, first-served basis.

Making difficult health care decisions involves the same process we use to make other difficult decisions, ethicist Mary Deutscher said at a recent diocesan Foundations: Exploring Our Faith Together program hosted Oct. 16, 2017 by Holy Spirit Parish in Saskatoon.

The ethicist for St. Paul’s Hospital and the Catholic Health Association of Saskatchewan engaged her listeners in a reflection on making decisions and the role of conscience, before addressing some specific scenarios related to artificial nutrition and hydration.

JOY program begins second year

The Justice and Outreach Year (JOY) of Formation program kicked of its second year Sept. 15-16, with a new cohort of participants from across the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon. 

As the JOY program is a year-long immersion of learning from and working alongside people who experience life on the margins, the program began by offering an understanding of the lens through which we view the world.

Celeste Woloschuk is the new part-time Ecumenical and Interfaith Coordinator for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon.


Nicholas Jesson, who served for many years as the diocesan Ecumenical Officer, recently left Saskatoon to become the Ecumenical Officer for the Archdiocese of Regina.

Ongoing Events

The C.W.L. meets the first Wednesday of each month, beginning September 4th and starts with 7:00 p.m. mass. 

The K of C meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month in the Welcoming Area, beginning September 12th and start at 7:30 p.m. 

Morning Bible Study begins September 6th. This group meets each Wednesday morning at 9:30. Newcomers are welcome. 

The Seniors' Friendship Club meets each Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Welcoming Area. This is an opportunity to come out and join in an afternoon of fellowship, cards, etc, food, and fun. Everyone is welcome. The club's first meeting will be September 13th.
