Development & Peace Fall Workshops Webinar

  * All are invited to attend Development & Peace’s fall campaign workshops for the Saskatoon diocese.  The campaign, called Share the Journey, is on forced migration.  Webinar: Sept 26, 7 pm to 8:30 pm.  You must register in advance for this on-line workshop in order to receive the link. Please register by sending an email request to asonntag@devp.org .  Registration deadline is Sept. 25.   D&P has joined in this global Catholic campaign that Pope Francis launched last fall.  Given the huge migration of people around the globe and divisive reactions, Pope Francis is urging us to develop a culture of encounter.  No one should be forced to flee their home, yet 68.5 million people in the world today are forced migrants.   To learn more about the universal Catholic Church’s response to forced migration, or about the campaign, and how to be a part of it, please join us at one of the following workshops in the diocese.  An RSVP is appreciated. Dying, Healed Workshop

  * DYING HEALED Workshop coming to St. Peter’s Parish ~ Unity on Wednesday, Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This course explores human dignity, coping with suffering, the power of presence, and end of life issues. Discover ways to show compassion and love, especially to someone suffering with a terminal illness or coping with a physical or mental health condition. Learn more about end of life issues, the power of human presence and the meaning of human suffering. Sign up for LifeCanada’s – The Dying Healed program today and join many others across Canada to support those who are vulnerable or socially isolated. The simple act of attending to people in your community or at home who might be lonely, sick, or suffering can bring spiritual healing and restore their sense of dignity. Each Participant will receive a workbook. The workshop will be held in St. Peter’s Church Hall, 5th Ave. West, Unity, Saskatchewan. COST: $15 (Lunch and refreshments will be provided. From Mourning to Dawn - diocesan grief support group for widows and widowers

From Mourning to Dawn,the diocesan grief support group for widows and widowers begins a new session on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018. Mourning to Dawn facilitators (who have themselves also experienced the death of a marriage partner) engage with participants on an eight-week journey of transformation and healing, offering support and encouragement for bereaved spouses. This program is open to participants who have been widows/widowers between 2 months and 2 years. Sessions are held at the Catholic Pastoral Centre in the Cathedral of the Holy Family (123 Nelson Road) on eight consecutive Tuesdays, beginning Sept. 11, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The cost is $35.For more information or to register, please contact Dianna Knaus at dknaus@sasktel.net (306) 382-0535.

Creating Connections: Celebrating ReligiousDiversity in the Arts September 27-28, 2018, presented by the Prairie Centre for Ecumenism. The event kicks off at the Remai Modern art gallery in Saskatoon on Thursday, Sept. 27 with  “An Evening with Yann Martel”. Friday, September 28 features a day at Queen’s House learning from plenary speakers  local artist, Kevin Peeace and Dr. Justin Jaron Lewis of Winnipeg. Kevin is a member of the Yellowquill and Peter Chapman First Nations.  He has used his talent and education not only to create his beautiful, colourful works but also to work collaboratively within the school system.  Dr. Lewis is a spiritual Jewish storyteller (Maggid) and will share some traditional tales with us.  His interests are varied, ranging from 16thcentury Yiddish texts to modern Judaism. There will be shorter sessions throughout the day providing a wide variety of learning opportunities. More detailed information will soon follow and registration will open, July 31.

  * 24 Hour Adoration and Prayer in Response to Sexual Abuse  The Cathedral of the Holy Family Parish Pastoral Council is inviting you to prayer and to join together in compassionate support of survivors of sexual abuse, and all members of the Church whose faith and trust has been hurt by sexual abuse in the Church. All are invited to join in a candle vigil and 24 hours of perpetual exposition of the Blessed Sacrament beginning after the 6:30 p.m. Mass on Sunday, Sept. 23. The 24 hours will conclude at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 24 with Benediction.

40 Hours for Life Campaign

  * 40 Hours for Life campaign will again take place outside City Hospital in Saskatoon. The campaign will run from Wednesday, September 26 until Friday, November 2, Monday to Fridays each week.  There are one-hour time slots, 9 am to 10 am, 10 am to 11 am and 11 am to 12 noon.  We are looking for individuals/groups to commit to any amount of time in one/more of the three time slots.  Signs are provided.  This will ensure we have a core group for each day/time slot to stand up to witness for the preborn child.  If you can help out please contact Louis 306-249-2764 or email campaignlifesk@gmail.com.

* The Season of Creation – A program entitled the Season of Creation is being inaugurated as an annual celebration of prayer and action to protect creation. The Season of Creation will be celebrated by Christians of all traditions, and the leaders of various churches have encouraged the faithful to participate. The season begins on Sept. 1, the World Day of Prayer for Creation, and runs through Oct. 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology. Sept. 1 was proclaimed as World Day of Prayer for Creation, or Creation Day by Ecumenical Patriarch Dimitrios I for the Orthodox Church in 1989, and was embraced by the other major Christian churches in 2001, and by Pope Francis for the Roman Catholic Church in 2015. The Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Saskatoon is inviting all to celebrate Akathist prayers in Praise and Care for God’s Creation 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19 at Steve Patola Park, 1235 20th Street West, Saskatoon, as representatives of several faith communities pray for creation. After the prayer service we will meet for coffee right next to the park at St. George’s Senior Citizens Club. An introduction to faith communities and dialogue will follow. * The Saskatoon Regional Quilters will be meeting at Holy Spirit Church in Saskatoon on Sept.17, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  All those interested in quilting, ironing, sorting fabric or just coming to see what goes on are very welcome to attend. All quilts made go to charities within our city.  If you are staying all day, please bring a bag lunch. Coffee and tea supplied. Come for the day or come for an hour. Morning Bible Study begins September 6th. This group meets each Wednesday morning at 9:30. Newcomers are welcome. 

The Seniors' Friendship Club meets each Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Welcoming Area. This is an opportunity to come out and join in an afternoon of fellowship, cards, etc, food, and fun. Everyone is welcome. The club's first meeting will be September 13th.
